On 13 May 1995, in the presence of the then President Václav Havel, a stone monument was unveiled at the site of the emergency burial ground, “Ma bisteren – do not forget.” Its author, the academic sculptor Zdeněk Hůla said of it: “I used a fragment of a sphere with one part missing from its base. The whole ideal sphere is a symbol of perfection and wholeness and each missing part disturbs this harmony in beauty and stability. I think this is also true in human society.” The memorial to commemorate the prisoners was the first ever official commemoration involving political officials, activists, survivors and their descendants.
