At the end of the tour of the outdoor exhibition, you as a visitor can experience different feelings, feel the cruelty and horror that the prisoners of the camp experienced. This impression is enhanced by the knowledge that a large-scale pig farm was built on this place of suffering in the recent past. To cope with these strong emotions, Katharsis welcomes the visitor at the end of the Memory Trail. As one of the authors, Petr Petkovsky, says, “understanding these horrific events, and especially coming to terms with them, is an essential prerequisite for the future of our children”.
Katharsis is a stylized circle that symbolizes the history of Roma and Sinti and the cycle of human life. This strong bond is violently torn apart by 335 dead and hundreds deported to Nazi concentration camps. A circle symbolizing the Roma and Sinti Holocaust is directed towards a nearby emergency burial site where some victims are buried only a few centimeters underground.
